CLINTON, Miss. -- Mississippi College fell to nationally ranked Valdosta State on Saturday by a final score of41-14. Valdosta State jumped out early, receiving the opening kickoff and finishing the drive with a 24-yard field goal with 9:24 remaining in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.
Mississippi College looked to answer on a near 9-minute drive but came up short, missing a 40-yard field goal with 0:29 remaining in the first quarter.
The Blazers followed with a 32-yard rushing touchdown with 11:28 left in the second quarter before knocking down a 25-yard field goal to take a 13-0 lead. Valdosta State led 13-0 at the break.
The Choctaws started out the third quarter with a positive start, opening with a 26-yard rush to the Blazers 49 yard line yet stalled later in the drive which led to a turn over on downs.
Valdosta State went on to score two more touchdowns before Mississippi College answered with a touchdown run by Tytus Heard from one-yard out to make the score 27-7.
The Choctaws later scored again with an explosive 34-yard touchdown run by Marcus Williams with 5:11 remaining in the contest. Missisissippi College ultimately fell by a final score of 41-14 to No. 2 Valdosta State.
Mississippi College finished the game with 342 rushing yards on offense with Cole Fagan leading the way with 75 rushing yards. Marcus Williams finished with 67 yards on six carries, including a 34-yard touchdown run. Williams had an impressive 11.2 yards per carry in the contest. Heard also had an impressive 57 yards rushing on the afternoon, averaging 6.3 yards per carry.
The Choctaws host West Florida next Saturday for homecoming, apart of the final home game of the season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CST at Robinson-Hale Stadium.
