CLINTON, Miss. - Homecoming, senior night and the fifth-ranked West Florida Argonauts came to town for a primetime matchup with the Mississippi College Choctaws.
MC battled hard to a tie in the first half, but ultimately fell by a final score of 63-28.Â
The Argonauts struck first and took a 7-0 lead after a 2-yard rush by Shomari Mason with 13:25 remaining in the opening period.The Choctaws battled back dwn the field as DeAnte'Smith-Moore plunged in from the one-yard line tying it up at 7-7 at the 5:12 mark. UWF answered back after Austin Reed completed a 9-yard pass to Ka'Ron Ashley at 2:54 regainihng the lead 14-7 throughout the period.
The Choctaws opened the second quarter with a score on a 4-yard pitch to
Marcus Williams to tie the game at 14-14 with 13:40 left in the first half. The UWF offense answered back to regain the lead 21-14 after a 25-yard completion for a score from Reed to Larry Rembert at 11:52 remaining before the break. MC returned fire with a 30-yard strike from Smith-Moore to
Sam Wilder tying the game again at 21-21 with 4:54 remaining in the half. Reed found Rembert again for a 27-yard score putting the Argos up 28-21, but a seven-yard run by
Jaylin Jones had the game deadlocked 28-28 heading to the locker room.
West Florida controlled the second half outscoring the Choctaws 35-0. The nationally ranked Argonauts went on the defeat Mississippi College by a final of 63-28 on the Choctaws homecoming.Â
Mississippi College returns to the field next weekend on the road at Delta State for the Heritage Bell Trophy. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CST in Cleveland, Miss.Â
