The Mississippi College men's soccer team knocked off Christian Brothers 2-0 on Friday night (Oct. 22) to pick up the Choctaws 4th straight win. MC improved to 7-4-1 overall (4-2-1 GSC) on the year while CBU fell to 7-5-1 overall (3-4-1 GSC).
It was a hard fought 1st half with neither team being able to find the back of the net even though CBU held an 8-5 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes.
That changed quickly in the 2nd half though when Filippo Bellu forcefully put home a header off a corner from
Soane Deminguet Folituu to put MC up 1-0 in the 53rd minute. The goal marked Bellu's 8th of the season which now leads the team. The assist was Folituu's 3rd of the season.
Then, just minutes later
Julio Rangel doubled MC's lead as he scored unassisted in the 63rd minute to make it a 2-0 match. The goal marked Rangel's 2nd of the season.
The Choctaws were then able to see out the 2-0 victory in their first GSC match in nearly 3 weeks.
Overall, CBU had a 20-13 edge in shots and a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Bellu paced MC in shots with 4 and in shots on goal with 2. Rangel,
Guilherme Santos, and
Santi Diosa all added 2 shots apiece.
Alejandro Chavarria also made 7 saves in goal as he picked up the clean sheet shutout, the 16th of his career.
Next up, the Choctaws will stay on the road as they take on Union University on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 24) at 3:00 pm.
