Choctaws Take Down Crusaders 42-21 in Saturday Road Win

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Mississippi College Choctaws got back into the win column Saturday afternoon, defeating North Greenville by a final score of 42-21.

The Crusaders struck first with 61-yard touchdown run with 14:16 on the clock in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. 

Later in the first quarter, DeAnte Smith-Moore put MC on the board to tie the contest up at 7-7 with under three minutes left in the first quarter. 

Smith-Moore added another touchdown in the second quarter to put MC up 14-7, with 13:39 left in the half. With 5:20 left in the half, NGU knotted the contest up at 14-14. Yet, with 25-second left in the half, MC punched the go ahead touchdown into the endzone to take a 21-14 lead into the break.

Mississippi College took a two touchdown lead with 2:06 on the clock in the third quarter to go up 28-14. The Choctaw defense held the Crusaders to one more touchdown for the afternoon while Mississippi College added two more scores. 

The Choctaws went on to win 42-21 over the Crusaders as MC now moves to 2-2 overall on the season and 1-1 in GSC play. MC rushed for an astounding 409 yards on the ground including five rushing touchdowns. 

The Choctaws produced two 100-yard rushers, led by Smith-Moore with 110 rushing yards on 22 carries and four touchdowns. Cole Fagan added 103 yards on the ground on 23 carries,  while averaging 4.3 yards per carry.

Smith-Moore added 98 yards through the air on 3-of-5 passing attempts, including a 23 yard touchdown pass to running back Marcus Williams. Williams nearly gave MC a third 100 yard rusher, finishing just shy of triple digits with 93 rushing yards on 11 carries. 

Sam Wilder led MC with one reception for 41 yards, with Jacob Stephens and Williams pulling in a team high two receptions each for 34 and 23 yards, respectively. 

Defensively, Ridge Futral, Josh Miller, and Gavin Greene tallied six tackles each. Miller led MC with one tackle for loss and one interception. Chase Rush forced a fumble for the Choctaws defense while DeShawn Washington had the Choctaws lone sack of the afternoon. 

Mississippi College returns home next weekend, Oct. 9, for a 2 p.m. GSC kickoff versus West Georgia at 2 p.m. at Robinson-Hale Stadium.
