MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- For the second straight game, three Lady Choctaws scored in double figures, including a double-double from
Mikeba Jones, but it wasn't enough as the Mississippi College women's basketball team were edged 63-58 at Christian Brothers University on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Jones posted a team-leading 16 points and added a career-high 15 points in the setback.
NeNe Williams and
Rivers Futral tied for second on the team with 11 points each.

Mississippi College shot 29.9 percent from the field and hit 66.7 percent from the charity stripe. The Lady Choctaws totaled a season-best 45 rebounds on the day.

Brynne Lytle led the Red and Black with 18 points. Julia Nicholson added 12 points as Darcy Dolan provided 11 points. Emily Jones wrapped up the quartet with 10 points and team-best eight boards.

Christian Brothers connected on 32.7 percent of its shots from the floor and knocked down 26 of its 32 shots from the free throw line. CBU pulled down 40 rebounds in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-An equal contest through much of the first 20 minutes play, Christian Brothers held the largest lead of the half at 25-18 with 6:13 left until the break. The Lady Choctaws cut into the lead as they narrowed the deficit to within two on a couple different occasions – the last coming with 1:16 left in the half – but CBU's Lytle knocked down a pair of free throws with 16 ticks left to send the Red and Black into the locker room up 30-26.
-The Navy and Gold tied the contest at 30-all early in the third quarter and with 7:28 left Futral placed the Lady Choctaws up 34-33. The Madison, Miss., freshman added a second basket a minute later to expand the lead to 36-33 – MC's largest lead of the game. CBU responded with the charity stripe with six straight free throws to regain the lead at 39-36 with 4:36 left in the quarter. The Lady Bucs swelled their margin to as many as eight with 46 seconds left before the final quarter – the largest of the game for CBU. The Lady Bucs were 12-of-16 from the stripe during the quarter.
-The Lady Choctaws once again chipped away at the deficit and regained the lead on a 3-pointer from
Jay Levy with 2:49 left in the game. The two teams exchanged baskets and stood tied at 56-all with just over a minute to play. Bailey Cummings gave CBU back the lead at the minute mark and the Red and Black never relinquished the lead again.
