Turnovers Cost Choctaws in 67-62 Loss to Christian Brothers

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team could not overcome 19 turnovers in a 67-62 loss to Christian Brothers University on Friday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws fell to 1-6 on the season, while the Bucs improved to 2-3. The teams are scheduled to wrap up the series on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Clinton.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - In a game that saw seven ties and nine lead changes, neither team led by more than seven points the entire night.
  - The Choctaws scored the first five points of the game, but the Bucs answered with a 10-2 run before a TJ Ben long ball tied the score at 10-10 early on.
  - CBU grabbed a pair of seven-point leads, including going ahead 25-18 with 7:38 remaining on a three-pointer from Christian Jones.
  - The Choctaws answered with a 15-5 run that was capped by a jumper from Antonio Cowart Jr. to make the score 33-30 with 2:47 to go in the first half.
  - Cowart hit another jumper in the final minutes and MC would take a 35-34 lead into the halftime break.
  - The second half opened with a back-and-forth battle that saw a bucket from Winford Ross give MC the 43-41 lead with 14:23 remaining.
  - The Bucs answered with seven straight points but four straight free throws from Ben and Dyllan Taylor cut the deficit to 48-47 with 10:21 to go.
  - The game remained close and when Brandon Boston hit a pair of free throws with 5:30 left, the score was tied at 53-53.
  - CBU answered with a 7-0 run and MC could get no closer than two points the rest of the way.
 

KEY STATS / NOTES
  - The Bucs now hold a 12-6 edge in the series and got revenge for an MC win the last time the teams met in Clinton last season.
  - The Choctaws shot 49% (23-of-47) from the floor and went 12-of-14 (86%) from the free throw line.
  - However, 19 turnovers led the 19 CBU points and MC went just 1-of-6 from the three-point line in the second half.
  - Boston led the way with 17 points, going 7-of-14 from the field and 3-of-3 from the foul line.
  - Ross came off the bench to score 10 points, a bench that put up 28 points on the night.
  - Cowart scored six points with a team-high four assists and five rebounds.
  - Four Bucs scored in double-figures, led by 15 from Nick Deifel.
  - Aiden Ruthsatz scored 11 points and led the team with eight assists and seven rebounds.
  - CBU shot 45% (22-of-49) from the floor and went 7-of-17 (41%) from the three-point line.
