CLINTON, Miss. --- Former Olympic bronze medalist and five-time NCAA Champion Larry Myricks has been elected to the Gulf South Conference Hall of Fame Class of 2020, it was announced on Thursday (April 2).

A Clinton native, Myricks is one of the most accomplished long jumpers in American history, competing on four United States Olympic teams (1976, 1980, 1984 and 1988), including winning the bronze medal in 1988 in Seoul.

For his remarkable international career, the former Choctaw was inducted in the U.S. Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2001.

He also enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career, winning five NCAA Championships with three in the Long Jump and two in the 200m Dash. Myricks also was the recipient of the GSC Commissioner's Trophy in 1979 and still holds the conference meet record in the Long Jump over 40 years later.

Larry was inducted into the Mississippi College Athletics Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

Myricks becomes the second Mississippi College representative in the GSC Hall of Fame after Fred McAfee was inducted in 2017.

The other five members of the 2020 class are: Malcolm Butler (West Alabama), Morgan Johnson Faulk (Valdosta State), Josh Magette (UAH), Josh Willingham (North Alabama) and Dr. Kent Wyatt (Delta State).

"With a long and storied history that includes 53 National Championships, the GSC and its member institutions are proud of the Hall of Fame introduced in June 2014 that recognize individuals who played a key role in developing the conference's reputation and legacy," said GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson. "The Class of 2020 almost perfectly represents that history with achievements spanning every decade of our history."
