Freudenberg and Williams Named MC Merit Health Athletes of the Week

CLINTON, Miss. --- Senior A.B. Williams and sophomore Baylee Freudenberg have been named Mississippi College Merit Health Athletes of the Week, it was announced on Monday (March 9).
 

Freudenberg (League City, Texas) hit .538 (7-of-13) with four home runs, two doubles and seven RBI as the Lady Choctaws went 5-0 on the week, including a three-game road sweep of Shorter. For the week, Baylee posted a .647 on-base percentage with a 1.615 slugging percentage, reaching base on 11-of-17 plate appearances over five games.

Baylee became the first Lady Choctaw since Brooke Smitherman in 2014 to hit three home runs in a single game, turning the trick in the series-opening 8-0 win over the Hawks. She backed that up with a grand slam in the 6-0 win over Shorter on Sunday.

On the season, Freudenberg is hitting .273 with five home runs, two doubles and 11 RBI. She has also scored nine runs and leads the team with a .788 slugging percentage.

The Lady Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. for a doubleheader with Ouachita Baptist at 3:00 p.m.
 

Williams (Benton, Miss.) had a successful Mississippi College Season Opener with three finishes in the top four. Williams finished top in the men's discus as he recorded a distance of 145'3 to win the event. He followed that with a third place finish in the men's hammer throw as he tossed a distance of 124'10". He rounded out his afternoon with a fourth place finish in the men's shot put with a toss of 44'6".

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, March 21 as it travels to Memphis, Tenn., for the Rhodes College Invitational.
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
