Choctaws Open Home Schedule with 5-2 Win Over Alcorn State

CLINTON, Miss. --- Playing their first home match of the 2020 season, the Mississippi College men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Alcorn State University on Thursday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex.

The Choctaws improved to 3-3 on the season, while the Braves fell to 2-14.
 

DOUBLES ACTION
  - ASU played with just five players, meaning the Choctaws needed to just take 1-of-2 doubles matches to clinch the opening point.
  - They got the win from the #1 team of Francois Le Tallec and Shane Samyn, who took 7-5 victory.
  - The Braves responded with a 7-5 win of their own at #2, but the Choctaws would take the 1-0 lead to singles play.
 

SINGLES ACTION
  - The Choctaws grabbed the 2-0 lead with Alcorn playing with only five players and getting a default victory at #6.
  - Carlos Trujillo pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a straight-set victory at the #4 position (6-3, 6-1).
  - The match-clinching point came next as Le Tallec made quick work of the #1 singles match (6-0, 6-3).
  - The Braves got their first point of the day with a straight-set win at #3.
  - Maksym Konovalov pushed the lead to 5-1 with a three-set victory at #2, coming back from an early deficit (6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 10-8).
  - The final point went to the Braves at #5 as Brady McDaniel battled but fell short in three sets (7-5, 2-6, 12-10).
 

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws will be heading to Mobile this weekend for a pair of raod matches.
  - They will face Mobile on Saturday (Mar. 7) and Spring Hill on Monday (Mar. 9).
