ARKADELPHIA, Ark. --- The Mississippi College softball team ran away with an 8-1 upset victory over #2 Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at the McGhee/Hawkins Invitational, hosted by Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist.
The Lady Choctaws (3-3) opened the day with a tough 4-3 loss to Henderson State (3-2) before the big win over the Javelinas (7-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
 - After four scoreless innings, the Lady Choctaws were able to break through in the 5th when
Jordan LaFosse drove in
Annemarie Peavy with a groundout.
 - MC would tack on two more runs in the 6th on an RBI walk from Peavy and an RBI single by
Hayden Claypool to score
Rayne Minor and
Morgan Bradford.
 - After
Avery Barnett tossed 5.0 scoreless innings, the Reddies led off the 6th with a walk and a hit-by-pitch to bring the game-tying run to the plate.
 - HSU took advantage of a pair of errors by the MC defense to cut the deficit to 3-2 and would eventually tie the game with an RBI double.
 - The game-winning run would score on another error by the Lady Choctaws in the 6th, giving the Reddies four unearned runs in the frame.
KEY STATS
 - Minor tallied her fourth multi-hit game of the season with a team-high two hits for the Lady Choctaws.
 - Peavy also drove in a pair of runs for MC.
 - The top four hitters in the HSU lineup each had a hit in the contest.
 - Barnett (1-1) took the loss for MC, giving up six hits and four unearned runs over 5.0 innings.
 - Madi Lancster got the final three outs for the Lady Choctaws in the circle.
 - Mallory Brewer (1-2) went the distance for HSU, pitching around five hits and four walks with just one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 - The Lady Choctaws wasted no time getting on the board as Minor singled to lead off the game and scored on an TAMK wild pitch.
 - LaFosse added MC's second run of the game with her first career home run with two outs in the 2nd inning, making the score 2-0.
 - The Javelinas cut the deficit in half in the 3rd inning with another unearned run given up by the MC defense, but the Lady Choctaws kept the lead.
 - MC got a pair of runs in the 4th as
Kendal Daniels led off the frame with her first home run of the season and LaFosse drove in Peavy with a sac fly.
 -
Baylee Freudenberg drove in two more runs in the 5th with a single to score Bradford and
Shayla McKissock.
 - MC put the game away with two more runs in the 7th as Peavy drove in Bradford with a sac fly and Freudenberg scored on a TAMK error.
 -
Hannah Creel made all that stand by not allowing a hit following the leadoff hitter in the 3rd inning.
KEY STATS
 - Creel (1-2) gave up just four hits and an unearned run with three strikeouts over the complete game effort in the circle.
 - McKissock led the way with three hits for MC, while Bradford, Peavy and LaFosse also had multi-hit games with the Lady Choctaws tallying 13 base-hits.
 - Freudenberg and LaFosse each drove in a pair of runs, while Bradford scored twice.
 - Loren Kelly had two hits and the one run scored for the Javelinas.
 - Breanna Smith (3-1) took the loss for TAMK, giving up 13 hits and five earned runs over 6.1 innings pitched.

 - The Lady Choctaws will wrap up the McGhee/Hawkins Invitational on Sunday when they face Missouri-St. Louis (9:00 am) and #21 Tarleton State (1:00 pm). Both games will be played at Ouachita Baptist.
