CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader with Union University at Frierson Field on Saturday, Feb. 29. The Choctaws (9-7, 4-1 GSC) grabbed the night cap 5-1 after falling 4-3 in 10 innings in the opening game of the series.

Grant Barber was the lone Choctaw with multiple hits in each game of the twinbill. The Mobile, Ala., senior totaled four hits during the afternoon.
Brandon Broussard led the squad with three RBI during the two contests.
Â
Luke Files (2-2) picked up the win on the mound in game two. Files tossed a complete game as he struck out five in seven innings and allowed five hits.
Tommy Taborda (0-1) took the loss on the mound in the opening game with one hit allowed and a strikeout.
Mississippi College and Union close out the series on Sunday, March 1. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Â The Choctaws claimed a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning as
Chauncey Callier and
CJ Berry reach drove in runs. The Navy and Gold clung to the lead until Ryan Lee hit a two-run home run in the seventh to tie the game.
- MC regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh as
Markarius Lee scored on a
Caleb Reese bunt single, but the second time the Bulldogs tied the contest, this time coming on an Austin Zeitler single up the middle in the top of the eighth.
- Zeitler drove in the game-winning run in the top of the 10th with a single to right field that plated A'Darius Pugh.

David Dunn tossed 7.2 innings as he allowed three runs – two earned – four hits along with two strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Union scored the first run of the game in the top of the third, MC responded in the bottom of the fourth with four runs. Callier got the scoring started with a RBI single that plated Barber. Broussard followed with a bases-clearing, three-RBI double down the right field line to extend the lead to 4-1.

Logan McGrew capped off the night with a solo home run in the sixth.Â

Files' complete game was the first of the season for the Choctaws.
McGrew's home run helped MC extend GSC lead in the category to 18.
