Choctaws Close Out Season with Loss at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team finished the 2019-20 season with a 91-62 loss to West Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Pruitt Hall.

The Choctaws finished the season at 8-18 with a 4-16 Gulf South Conference record, while the Tigers are 21-7 with a 14-6 league mark and will enter the GSC Tournament as the #4 seed next week.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Tigers put the game away early on with a 13-4 run to open things and a 30-5 sprint to grab a 43-9 lead with 5:24 remaining in the first half.
  - They would hang on to the big lead and go into the half with a 55-21 advantage.
  - UWA would eventually push their lead out to as many as 44 in the second half.
  - The Choctaws closed the game on a 12-3 run to give the game its final score.
 

KEY STATS
  - The Choctaws were held to 37% (21-of-57) shooting from the floor and 7-of-18 (39%) from the three-point line.
  - The Tigers, on the other hand, shot 55% (36-of-66) from the field and went 10-of-21 (48%) from long range.
  - Winford Ross led the Choctaws with 21 points, going 8-of-13 from the field with a team-high five rebounds.
  - Zach Jones scored 15 points in 18 minutes, while TJ Ben was also in double-figures with 12.
  - LaJuan Hardy led all scorers with 27, while Mike Davis had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for UWA.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws and head coach Mike Jones will look to get things going next year after an injury-riddled 2019-20 season.
