Argos Pull Away in 2nd Half for Win Over Choctaws

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team struggled offensively in the second half and fell to West Florida, 82-52, on Saturday afternoon in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws fell to 8-15 with a 4-13 Gulf South Conference record, while the Argonauts improved to 13-12 with a 10-8 league mark.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - After Stefan Bozickovic hit a jumper on MC's opening possession, the Argos scored the next nine points to jump out to an early lead.
  - The Argos would push the lead out to as many as 11 in the first half, including a 35-24 advantage with 4:44 remaining.
  - The Choctaws would rally, however, and go on an 11-3 run in the final minutes to cut the halftime score to 38-35.
  - In the second half, Michael Williams Jr. hit a jumper with 17:22 to go and cut the deficit back to 40-37.
  - The Argos would take over from there, scoring the next 11 points and using another 9-0 run to extend the the lead to 60-41 with 9:35 to go.
  - Another 13-0 run by UWF blew the game open, and the Argos picked up their fourth road win of the season.
 

KEY STATS
  - In the second half, the Choctaws scored just 17 points, going 8-of-33 (24%) from the floor and 1-of-13 (8%) from the three-point line.
  - For the game, MC shot 34% from the field and went just 3-of-25 (12%) from long range.
  - Winford Ross came off the bench and scored a team-high 18, while TJ Ben chipped in 13.
  - Jacob Taylor scored six and led the team with nine rebounds and five assists.
  - The Argos shot 48% from the field for the game and went 9-of-16 (56%) from the three-point line.
  - UWF held a major advantage at the free throw line, going 19-of-23 (83%) from the free throw line, while MC was just 1-of-3.
  - Cameron Cox led all scorers with 25 points, while Conor Flanagan had a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws will close out their home schedule on Thursday night against rival Delta State at 7:30 p.m.
  - At halftime of the women's game, MC will recognize their two student-athletes playing in their final home games: Isiah Brown and Jon Harding.
