Choctaws Pace GSC With 104 Academic Honor Roll Members

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College led the Gulf South Conference with 104 student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, it was announced on Monday (Jan. 27).

The Choctaws and Lady Choctaws also placed eight student-athletes on the All-Academic Teams after a vote by the league's Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs).

The women's soccer team, which went a perfect 12-0 in GSC play this season and won the regular season title, led the league with 27 Academic Honor Roll selections and four All-Academic Team selections in Lauren Kate Carter, Scarlett Hodges, Gabby Kayser and Katie Taylor.

The football team had 24 student-athletes make the Honor Roll, while Drew Croegaert and Luke Wilson earned spots on the All-Academic Team.

The men's and women's cross country teams combined for 19 student-athletes on the Honor Roll with Madeline Campbell and Gabe Poulin rounding out MC's All-Academic Team selections.

The men's soccer team had 20 student-athletes find their names on the Academic Honor Roll, while the volleyball team had MC's final 14 Honor Roll honorees.

Academic All-GSC Teams are selected by the Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be a freshman or first-semester or quarter transfer.

The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad. Other factors include leadership, community service and extra-curricular activities. SIDs and FARs are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken.

The Choctaws and Lady Choctaws had a league-high 104 selections on the Academic Honor Roll. Qualification for the Honor Roll is automatic based on at least a 3.00 grade-point-average and does not require a voting process.

Shorter University had 95 Honor Roll selections followed by Lee and West Florida with 78 apiece.
