Choctaws Open 2020 With Home Loss to West Georgia

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team opened the 2020 portion of their schedule with an 84-63 loss to West Georgia on Thursday in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws fell to 5-6 on the season and 1-4 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Wolves improved to 4-8 with a 2-2 league record.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Choctaws scored the first two points of the game on a bucket from Willie Logan, but the Wolves scored the next four points and never trailed again.
  - MC would tie the score on a couple occasions in the first half, including with 10:45 remaining when Isiah Brown scored to tie the game at 15-15.
  - The Wolves would open up the lead to as many as 14 at 38-24 with 3:10 remaining and would settle for a 42-32 advantage at the halftime break.
  - The Choctaws scored the first four points of the second half to cut the lead to 42-36 but would get no closer as UWG pulled away for the road victory.
 

KEY STATS
  - The Wolves' 84 points is the most allowed by the Choctaws this season and the 50% shooting ties a season-high.
  - Winford Ross tallied his second double-double of the season with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds.
  - Logan was also in double-figure scoring with 10 points on the night.
  - UWG took advantage of the glass, outrebounding the Choctaws by a count of 43-33 and scoring 12 second-chance points.
  - Kovi Tate led all scorers with 23 points, also recording a double-double with 10 rebounds to lead UWG.
  - Four players scored in double-figures with the Wolves going 8-of-19 from the three-point line.
  - They also held a big edge at the free throw stripe, going 16-of-21 (76%), while the Choctaws were 12-of-25 (48%).
 

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they host Shorter at 4:00 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
