Hot-Shooting Bulldogs Take Down Choctaws

CLINTON, Miss. --- Union University went 16-of-29 (55%) from the three-point line and picked up a 92-58 win over the Mississippi College men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws fell to 7-9 on the season with a 3-7 Gulf South Conference record, while the Bulldogs improved to 12-6 with a 6-4 league record.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The game was tight early on with the teams trading leads before Winceton Edwards hit a pair of free throws with 12:05 to go in the first half to tie the score at 17-17.
  - The Bulldogs went on a 30-10 run, however, and eventually took a 47-33 lead into the break, despite the Choctaws closing the half on a 6-0 sprint.
  - Union opened the second half in the same fashion with a 17-4 run and pulled away to pick up the big road victory.
 

KEY STATS
  - Overall, the Bulldogs shot 47% (35-of-74) from the field to go along with their hot three-point shooting.
  - The Choctaws stayed close in the first half, shooting 42% (10-of-24) from the field, but went just 9-of-31 (29%) in the second 20 minutes.
  - Edwards and Zach Jones had a team-high 13 points for the Choctaws, while Jones had a team-high five assists.
  - Tyree Boykin led the Bulldogs with 29 points, going 10-of-17 from the field and making his first eight three-point shots.
  - Four Bulldogs scored in double-figures, while Ousmane Gueye had a team-high 11 rebounds.
  - Union outscored MC 34-14 in the paint and had 15 points off 10 Choctaw turnovers.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Cleveland, Tenn. to face Lee University at 6:30 p.m. (Central).
