SAINT LEO, Fla. --- Despite outshooting their opponents by a count of 23-2, the Mississippi College women's soccer team fell in their season opener at Saint Leo, 1-0, on Friday night at Saint Leo Soccer Field.
The #13 Lady Choctaws (0-1) took 11 shots in the first half and 12 shots in the second half, only allowing two first-half opportunities for the Lions (1-0).
Saint Leo took advantage of their chances, however, as Carolina Solis-Deleon found the back of the net in the 26th minute off an assist from Adriana Tuti Tirado.
Seven of MC's 23 shots went on frame, but Julia Ortiz made all seven saves to pitch the shutout in goal for SLU.

Gabby Kayser made one save in net for the Lady Choctaws.

Katie Taylor led the way with five shots, while freshman
Erin Hederman took four.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to face Tampa at 12:00 p.m. (CT).
