CLINTON, Miss. --- The Missisippi College men's soccer team opened the 2019 season with an impressive 3-0 win over the University of Texas at Tyler on Friday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
The Choctaws (1-0) outshot the Patriots (0-1), their former rival from Division III and the American Southwest Conference, by a count of 18-8 with 11 shots coming on goal.
Sophomore
Guilherme Santos scored the eventual game-winner in the 19th minute as he found the back of the net on an assist from junior
Victor Bazan.
After taking the 1-0 lead into the break, the Choctaws added a pair of goals within two minutes as senior
Isaac Gonzalez scored in the 50th minute on a beautiful ball from freshman
Joshua Fulton to make the score 2-0.
Senior
Owen Connelly wrapped up the scoring in the 51st minute with a smooth finish off a helper from senior
Joshua Robinson.
Junior
Alejandro Chavarria and the MC defense posted the shutout, facing eight shots and making four saves in the match.
Parker O'Quinn took the loss in net for the Patriots, making seven saves on the 11 shots on goal.
The Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action on Friday, September 13th, when they travel to Searcy, Ark. to face Harding Universitiy at 7:00 p.m.
