Taylor Nets Four Goals in 7-0 Win Over West Alabama

CLINTON, Miss. --- Senior Katie Taylor became the first Mississippi College women's soccer player to score four goals in a match since 2003 as the Lady Choctaws opened Gulf South Conference play with a 7-0 victory over West Alabama on Friday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

The Lady Choctaws improved to 3-1 with a 1-0 mark in GSC play, while the Tigers fell to 2-3 with an 0-3 league record.

GAME NOTES
  - The seven goals for the Lady Choctaws was the most they have scored in a single match since defeating Spring Hill 7-0 on October 29, 2016.
  - Taylor's four goals is the most for a Lady Choctaw since Kemily Weimer turned the trick on September 5, 2003 against Loyola (LA).
  - Her hat trick is the first for a Lady Choctaw since Becca Dupuy and Macey Lee scored three times each against LeTourneau on October 5, 2013.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - Taylor netted the eventual game-winning goal in the 9th minute as she found the back of the net on an assist from senior Emma Claire Furman to take a 1-0 lead.
  - She would then add a goal in the 23rd minute as freshman Erin Hederman shot a ball across the box that was deflected by senior Jess Davenport to Taylor to make the score 2-0 at halftime.
  - In the second half, Taylor kept the goals coming as she scored in the 55th minute on another assist from Furman off a corner kick.
  - The Tupelo native tallied her final goal of the match in the 62nd minute as freshman Kaylee Foster played a beautiful ball through the defense that Taylor put between the pipes.
  - The scoring did not stop there, however, as the Tigers inflicted their own wound in the 71st minute with an unfortunate own goal to make the score 5-0.
  - In the 76th minute, senior Liza Wise sent a free kick into the box that senior Lauren Kate Carter shot to the bottom left corner to make the score 6-0.
  - The final tally of the night came in the 84th minute as freshman Avery Hederman scored her first career goal on a lovely strike off an assist from freshman Sydney Hughes.

KEY STATS
  - The Lady Choctaws poured on 21 shots to just five for the Tigers, with 15 coming on goal to just two for UWA.
  - Senior Gabby Kayser was forced to make two saves in the match to net her first shutout of the season and 10th of her career, making her the 4th Lady Choctaw to tally double-figure shutouts in a career.
  - It was the first overall shutout for the Lady Choctaws in the 2019 season.
  - Taylor led the way with six shots and five on goal with four finding the back of the net.
  - Furman tallied a pair of assists, giving the team 13 assists on 15 goals through four matches this season.
