Choctaws Fall to LSU-Alexandria, 2-1

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday in a 2-1 decision against LSU-Alexandria at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

The Choctaws fell to 1-1-2, while the Generals improved to 6-2.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Choctaws tallied the first goal of the match as senior Connor Johnson took advantage of a turnover and ripped a shot from 25 yards out into the top right corner to take a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.
  - The Generals responded in the 40th minute as they converted a penalty kick, marking the first goal the MC defense had conceded over the first 350 minutes of the season.
  - The teams went into the break tied at 1-1 and the match would remain tied until the 71st minute.
  - LSU-A scored the game-winner as Samuel Ogunjobi cleaned up a shot off the cross bar and found the bottom left corner to give the Generals the victory.
 

KEY STATS
  - The well-played match saw LSU-A take nine shots to eight for the Choctaws.
  - Junior Alejandro Chavarria made a save for MC in net and allowed his first two goals of the season.
  - Alvaro Garcia made three saves for LSU-A, along with giving up the one goal.
  - Senior Marco Sellan and junior Julio Rangel each had a team-high two shots for the Choctaws.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday (Sep. 26) when they open Gulf South Conference play at West Alabama at 6:00 p.m.
