Lady Choctaws Roll to 5-1 Win Over Texas-Tyler

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team opened their home schedule with a 5-1 victory over former American Southwest Conference rival Texas-Tyler on Saturday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

The Lady Choctaws improved to 2-1 on the year, while the Patriots fell to 2-2.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Patriots got off to a quick start as Mariah Harmon found the back of the net on an assist from Taylor Dickens to take a 1-0 lead in just the 4th minute.
  - The Lady Choctaws would continue trailing until the 31st minute when freshman Erin Hederman scored her first career goal on an assist from sophomore Marisa Saunders.
  - Senior Katie Taylor would score the eventual game-winner in the 35th minute as she converted a penalty kick after being taken down in the box.
  - Less than a minute later, freshman Kaylee Foster extended the lead to 3-1 on her third goal of the season with a helper from Taylor.
  - The match would head into the halftime break with the Lady Choctaws holding on to a 3-1 advantage.
  - The second half was much of the same for MC as Taylor scored her second of the match and third of the season on an assist from senior Jess Davenport in the 68th minute.
  - The final score of the match came in the 81st minute when junior Lindsey Stephenson tallied her first goal of the season on an assist from freshman Avery Hederman.
 

KEY STATS
  - The Lady Choctaws controlled possession in the match and outshot their opponents by a count of 27-6 over the 90 minutes.
  - Thirteen of MC's shots went on net, while the Lady Choctaws also had nine corner kicks in the match.
  - Taylor led the MC offense with a pair of goals and an assist.
  - Senior Gabby Kayser collected the win in net for the Lady Choctaws, allowing the one goal with one save over 83 minutes played.
  - Camri Cecil made eight saves for the Patriots over the 27 shots faced with 13 on goal.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Friday (Sep. 27) when they will open Gulf South Conference play at home against West Alabama at 3:00 p.m. at Longabaugh Field.
