CALERA, Ala. --- The Mississippi College golf team shot a second-round score of 304 to fire a 608 (+38) over two rounds and finish 7th at the Full Moon BBQ Invitational, hosted by the University of Montevallo at Timberline Golf Club.
Seniors
Force Choi and
Davis Murphy each tied for 8th with a two-round total of 145 (+3) at the first tournament of the 2019-20 season. Choi improved his score by one on the second day, shooting a 72 (+1) with four birdies and an eagle in the round.
Rounding out the MC finishers were freshman
Grant Mahaney (157, T-35th), freshman
Will Horn (159, 39th) and junior
Parker Brooks (165, 44th).
West Georgia shot a final-round score of 281 (-3) to win the team tournament, scoring a 568 over two rounds to defeat Montevallo by 10 strokes. Spring Hill (581) finished 3rd, followed by Christian Brothers (589), Miles (602), Union (602), MC (606), Shorter (611) and Belhaven (623).
Individually, Rece Moore of West Georgia and John Karcher of Spring Hill tied for the title with a two-round score 138 (-4). They finished just one shot ahead of Lucas Mota of West Georgia and Jordan Botwinick of Montevallo.
The Choctaws will be back in action on October 7th when they travel to Cleveland, Miss. to compete in the Derrall Foreman Invitational, hosted by Delta State University.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
