Ethan Doan Tabbed as Golf Head Coach

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College athletic director Mike Jones is pleased to announce the hiring of Ethan Doan as the school's head golf coach, it was announced on Tuesday (July 30).

Ethan takes over for previous head coach John McMath, who had served in that position since the golf team was re-started on campus in the 2004-05 academic year. Coach McMath will continue to serve in a volunteer role with the program in the years to come.

"Ethan has been an outstanding member of our golf program for the past several years, and we're excited to have him take over as head golf coach," said Jones. "Coach McMath is a great friend of mine, and I'm thankful for everything he has done in the head coach role at MC. He will be missed in that capacity, but I'm grateful he has decided to stay on and help in a volunteer capacity."

A native of Forney, Texas, Doan was a four-year letter-winner for the Choctaws (2010-14), playing in 32 total tournaments and ranking 3rd in school history with 69 total rounds played. He shot a career-record score of 69 in his sophomore season and finished 2nd at the Lake Caroline Invitational in October of 2011.

Following his playing career, Ethan took over as a graduate assistant in 2014-15 and was eventually named the Associate Head Coach prior to the 2017-18 campaign.

"What an honor it is to be named the head golf coach at Mississippi College," Doan said. "I want to thank Coach McMath for everything he has meant to me and this program over the past several years. He has been a staple of this program for over 15 years, and I'm extremely thankful he will continue to be around to help us out."

"Having been a player and a coach at MC, I have a lot invested in the future success of this program," Coach Doan went on. "I really see the golf program at MC set to take a leap in the Gulf South Conference. I'm just excited to be a part this program going to the next level."

Stepping in to serve as the graduate assistant for the golf program is Zach Anderson (McKinney, Texas), who played for the Choctaws from 2015-2019. Anderson also served as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at MC during the 2018-19 academic year.
