CLINTON, Miss. --- Over the past week the Mississippi College Office of Athletics Communications has been releasing the 2019 fall sports schedules. On Friday (July 19), we are pleased to announce the 2019 schedule for the MC football program.
The challenging slate opens with a trip to Lorman, Miss. to take on the reigning SWAC champion, Alcorn State (Sep. 7). Kick-off against the five-time defending SWAC East Division champions is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Spinks-Casem Stadium.
The home opener will be the following week as MC welcomes Albany State (Sep. 14) to Robinson-Hale Stadium at for the first-ever meeting between the schools. The Golden Rams went 7-4 in 2018, including a perfect 6-0 record in the SIAC before falling to Miles College in the league championship game.
Another first-time opponent awaits the Choctaws for the Gulf South Conference opener as North Greenville (Sep. 21) comes to Clinton. The Crusaders are in their second year as an affiliate member of the GSC and went 4-5 with a 3-4 league record in 2018. Last year's game was canceled due to the threat from Hurricane Florence on the east coast.
The next two games for MC will be on the road as they travel to Pensacola to face West Florida (Sep. 28) before heading to southeast Georgia to face the defending Division II national champions in Valdosta State (Oct. 5).
The second half of the 2019 campaign opens with a pair of home games, starting against Florida Tech (Oct. 12) before a bye week.
MC returns to the gridiron the next week as they celebrate "Homecoming" with a matchup against Shorter (Oct. 26), a team the Choctaws have beaten three straight years.
The Choctaws kick off November with two road games, facing West Georgia (Nov. 2) in Carrollton before heading to Livingston to play West Alabama (Nov. 9).
The regular season closes out the following weekend as Magnolia State rival Delta State (Nov. 16) comes to Robinson-Hale Stadium to play for the Heritage Bell Trophy.
The Choctaws opened the 2018 season with back-to-back victories, but a stiff GSC schedule sent MC to a 3-7 finish.
