PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College softball team got off to a slow start in the Gulf South Conference Tournament with a 5-1 loss to West Georgia on Thursday morning at the UWF Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (38-13) will now play an elimination game on Friday (May 3) at 10:00 a.m., facing the loser of the UAH vs. Union game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
>> The Wolves got all the offense they would need in the first inning as a pair of unearned runs crossed the plate on a two-out error by the Lady Choctaws.
>> Senior
Alexia Harmon tallied an infield single in the first inning, but it was the last hit the Lady Choctaws would muster until the seventh inning.
>> UWG tacked on a run in the fourth inning with a solo home run from Lexi Close to make the score 3-0.
>> They would add two more runs in the fifth with a solo home run from Alley Taylor and an RBI double by Madison Chambers, pushing the lead out to 5-0.
>> MC would finally break through in the seventh as junior

Paige Hulin to cut the deficit to 5-1.
>> The tying run would come to the plate in the seventh, but the Wolves were able to get out of the jam and hold on for the win.

>> The Lady Choctaws racked up four hits in the contest with three of them coming in the seventh inning.
>> Senior
Cori Cooper (13-8) took the loss in the circle, giving up five hits and two earned runs over 4.0 innings.
>> Freshman
Hannah Creel tossed the final 3.0 innings and allowed just three hits and one earned run.
>> Chambers and Taylor each had multi-hit games for the Wolves with Chambers notching three with an RBI and a run scored.
>> Morgan Goree (10-9) grabbed the win for UWG, going 6.1 innings with eight strikeouts and four hits allowed.
