CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team picked up a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Spring Hill on Wednesday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (28-10) opened the day with a 5-2 victory and they closed the afternoon with a 2-0 win over the Badgers (16-18).

GAME ONE: MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 5, SPRING HILL 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
>> MC picked up a couple of runs in the first inning as junior
Carly Crawford brought home junior
Shayla McKissock with a sacrifice fly and freshman
Annemarie Peavy scored on a wild pitch.
>> The Badgers scored runs in the second and fourth innings to tie the score at 2-2 after four frames.
>> MC opened the game up in the sixth with three runs, starting with back-to-back-to-back doubles from Peavy, Crawford and senior
Brianna Caldwell to make the score 4-2.
>> Sophomore
Ashley Elsensohn would score the final run of the game, touching the plate on a wild pitch.
KEY STATS
>> Freshman
Hannah Creel (12-3) went the distance in the circle, striking out five with just one earned run allowed over 7.0 innings.
>> Peavy led the way with two hits, including a double, and two runs scored.
>> Junior
Abbey Salvo tallied her first hit of the year with a single in the second inning.
>> Carmen Byrd and Carlisle Jamison each had a pair of hits for the Badgers.
>> Olivia Brown (3-4) tossed 5.0 innings for SHC, allowing five hits and two earned runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
>> In the second contest, MC got all the offense they needed in the first inning as Crawford singled home Peavy after the rookie doubled, and the score was 1-0.
>> The only other run of the game scored in the fourth when Crawford hit her second double of the day and freshman
Grace Hahn scored on a double steal after pinch-running for the MC catcher.
>> The Badgers had their lone scoring opportunity of the game in the sixth as they put runners on second and third with one out, but senior
Cori Cooper got out of the jam cruised to the shutout victory.
KEY STATS
>> Cooper (9-6) struck out 12 and allowed just four hits over the complete game effort.
>> It was Cooper's fifth time this season to strike out 10 or more batters.
>> Crawford led the MC offense with two hits and RBI, giving her 100 runs driven in for her career, becoming the sixth player in school history to achieve the feat.
>> Bailey Doiron (2-8) took the loss for SHC, giving up three hits and an earned run over 3.0 innings.
>> Delaney Thomas had one of the Badgers' four hits with a double in the sixth inning.
