Women's Basketball Preview: West Alabama - Senior Night

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 28 as it hosts the University of West Alabama in Gulf South Conference action. Tip-off inside A.E. Wood Coliseum is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
The Lady Choctaws will honor its seniors following the game against the Tigers.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES / PREVIEW 
West Alabama holds a slim advantage in the series at 13-12, including the last two meetings between the two schools. Mississippi College's last win in the series came on Dec. 9, 2017 in Clinton, Miss., 80-76.
 
Mississippi College looks to rebound from a 91-77 loss at in-state foe Delta State on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Cleveland, Miss. Four players scored in double figures in the contest in the Mississippi Delta led by two, 20-plus point efforts from Lauran Sheriff and Jamilah Sanders. Sheriff paced the squad with 22 points followed by 20 from Sanders. Coco Hobson added 11 points while Zariah Matthews supplied 10 points.
 
Three Lady Choctaw are averaging double figures this season led by Matthews with 11 points per game. Sanders ranks second on the team in scoring with 10.4 points followed by Hobson with 10 points per contest. Hobson also leads the team in rebounding with 7.1 boards.
 
West Alabama enters the game riding a three-game, losing streak. The Tigers, which are 11-16 overall and 8-11 in the GSC, are battling for the last spot in the GSC Tournament along with the University of Montevallo.
 
The Tigers last win this season came on Feb. 14 at Christian Brothers University, 65-63. The Livingston, Ala., based squad fell 62-52 at home against Valdosta State on Feb. 23 in its last outing.
 
UWA is led in scoring by J'Nyiah Daniels and Tazsa Garrett-Hammett with 10.3 points per game each. Brian Dent paces the Red and White on the glass with 7.4 rebounds while Garrett-Hammett sits second with seven boards.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
