Long Ball, Ingram Lead No. 18 Baseball to Season-Opening Win

SEARCY, Ark. --- Mississippi College hit three home runs and Zack Ingram tied a career-high in strikeouts as the No. 18 Choctaws opened the 2019 campaign on Friday, Feb. 1 with a 12-6 victory at Harding University.
 
Chauncey Callier, Dylan Duplechain, Grant Barber and Blaine Crim each notched multiple hits on the day as Callier led the team with a four-hit performance. Billy Cameron, Ty Alderman, Parker Haberstroh and Crim each contributed multiple EBI efforts in the contest. Cameron led the team driving in three runs while Crim and Alderman each drove in a pair.
 
Ingram (1-0) fanned nine batters in six innings of relief to notch the victory on the hill.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After back-to-back singles from Duplechain and Barber, Cameron delivered a three-run home run to left field. Callier followed Cameron with a first-pitch home run to right center to place MC up 4-0 in the top of the first.
  • Harding cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second and a sacrifice fly by Miles Humphreys gave the Bisons' the lead in the third in a three-run inning.
  • Alderman placed MC back in front with a two-run home run in the top half of the fourth. Callier led off the frame with an infield single.
  • After HU tied the contest at six-all, Crim delivered a RBI single to center to score Barber from second. Crim later scored on a wild pitch to give MC an 8-6 lead. Barber started the inning with a double off the left center wall.
  • Crim drove in his second run of the game in the top of the seventh with a single that scored Duplechain. Duplechain doubled down the line to start the inning.
  • Haberstroh delivered a two-RBI, double to right center in the top of the eighth. The junior later scored on a Barber double to conclude the scoring for the Navy and Gold.
ON THE MOUND
  • Ingram allowed six hits and one run in the effort.
  • Chris Crosby tossed 3.0 innings in the start. The senior hurler allowed five runs on five hits with a trio of walks and one strikeout.
NOTEABLES
  • The three home runs are the most in a game since hitting four at Christian Brothers on Mar. 18, 2017.
  • Ingram matched his career-high set against West Alabama on Apr. 21, 2018.
  • First home run for Cameron since May 7, 2018 against West Alabama in the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
  • Alderman's last home run came on April 24, 2018 at Southern Arkansas.
  • Harding stranded nine runners on the base. MC left three.
  • Both teams went 4-for-9 with their leadoff hitters in the contest.
