Lady Choctaws Finish Perfect GSC Season with 2-0 Win at West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team finished the regular season with a 2-0 victory at West Florida on Saturday afternoon, capping a perfect 12-0 campaign in Gulf South Conference play in 2019.

The #5 Lady Choctaws (14-1, 12-0 GSC) have now won a school-record 14 consecutive games and will head into next week's GSC Tournament as the #1 seed.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The first half went back-and-forth between the two teams near the top of the league standings, but senior Lauren Kate Carter broke through for MC with fourth goal of the season in the 39th minute.
  - MC would carry the 1-0 lead into the break and would keep the tight advantage until the final minutes.
  - The Lady Choctaws put the match away in the 86th minute as freshman Erin Hederman scored her sixth goal of the season to give the game its final score.
 

KEY STATS
  - Senior goalkeeper Gabby Kayser notched her 7th shutout of the season, making a season-high seven saves against the Argonauts.
  - The Argos took 16 shots with seven coming on goal, while the Lady Choctaws had 14 shots and four on goal.
  - Senior Jess Davenport took a game-high six shots with two coming on goal, while Hederman came off the bench after missing the previous three matches and put three shots up.
  - Estheffany Barreras took the loss in goal for the Argos, allowing two goals and making one save.
 

MATCH NOTES
  - The Lady Choctaws join West Florida (2018) as the only two teams in the last seven seasons to go unbeaten and untied through an entire league season.
  - MC is now 4-5 all-time against UWF, winning each of the last two meetings when the teams play in Pensacola.
  - The Lady Choctaws went 12-1 in league play in 2018, with the only loss in GSC play coming last season against UWF.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Lady Choctaws will open the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Thursday, November 12th with a "Super Tuesday" match against a team to be determined.
  - The match is currently scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
