CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with an 88-69 win over in-state foe Belhaven University behind a pair of double-doubles from
Moriah Hurst and
Coco Hobson.

Hobson and Hurst shared the team-lead in scoring with 18 points each. Hobson tied a career-high with a roster-best 18 rebounds while Hurst pulled down 12.
Zariah Matthews equaled the duo with 18 points.

Four Lady Choctaws scored in double figures in the outing as
Mikeba Jones chimed in a season-best 16.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tied 33-33 with two minutes left in the opening half, the Lady Choctaws closed the out the quarter on a 6-0 run, led by Hurst and Hobson, and took a 39-33 lead in at the break.
- Hobson gave MC its first double-digit lead of the game at the 9:07 mark of the third quarter with a jumper.
- BU cut the lead to single digits over the final two minutes of the third quarter, but a Jones layup as the horn sounded gave the Navy and Gold an 11-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
- The Blazers cut the deficit to 72-67 with 3:41 left in the game, but the Lady Choctaws responded with a 13-0 run to grab their largest lead of the game, 85-67, with just over a minute to play.
