Volleyball Concludes Season at GSC Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team closed out the 2019 campaign with a straight-set loss to the University of Montevallo on Friday, Nov. 22 at the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
 
The postseason appearance marked the first for the program since 2009 and its first time in the GSC Tournament since 1994.
 
Jamie Boros paced the Choctaws with seven kills followed by Kendall Platt with six and Lexie Laurendine with five. Laurendine and Levi Lennard each supplied a team-best nine assists in the contest. Lauredine led the roster with 18 digs followed by 17 from Julia Martin while Kate Bass recorded four blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montevallo claimed the first set 25-22. The Choctaws battled back from down 15-12 to cut the deficit down to 23-22, but the Falcons claimed the final two points.
- The Falcons jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second. The Choctaws fought back to pull within 20-19, but the Purple and Gold responded with the final five points of the set to capture a 2-0 lead.
- UM took a 3-0 start in the third, but the Choctaws managed to trim the advantage down to a point on a couple different occasions, the last coming at 14-13. The Falcons responded with a 6-3 run to take a 20-16 lead en route to a 25-21, match-clinching win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
- Martin wrapped up her four-year career with 1,104 digs and 100 service aces. She becomes just the second player in program history to reach the century mark in aces.
- Bass became the single season total blocks leader with 112.
- MC recorded the most conference wins since 2012 in the season.
- Laurendine became the first all-conference selection since 2010 with a second team recognition.
