Choctaws Play Lee to 1-1 Road Draw

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team played Lee University to a 1-1 draw on Friday night at the Lee Soccer Field.

The Choctaws moved to 3-1-3 on the season and 2-0-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Flames are now 5-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the league.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - Both teams struggled to get much effective offense going in the first half, combining for 15 shots but only four on goal through a scoreless 45 minutes.
  - The Choctaws cracked the scoreboard first in the 64th minute as freshman Cameron Moser scored his first career goal on a beautiful strike to put MC ahead 1-0.
  - The Flames answered back in the 78th minute when Tristan Lyle took advantage of a foul in the box on the Choctaws and converted a penalty kick.
  - Both teams would put forth scoring chances over the final 12 minutes of regulation, but the match went to overtime with the score, 1-1.
  - The teams combined to take six shots with three coming on goal in the overtime periods, but the match would end in a draw.
 

KEY STATS
  - The evenly-played match saw the Flames outshoot the Choctaws, 19-18.
  - Senior Owen Connelly led the Choctaws with five shots, while junior Marco Sellan tallied four.
  - Junior goalkeeper Alejandro Chavarria made seven saves in net for the Choctaws, allowing just the one goal in his third draw of the season.
  - Daniel Hrenko made five saves for Lee, allowing the one goal.
 

MATCH NOTES
  - The Choctaws are now 2-4-1 all-time against the Flames.
  - MC is 2-1-1 all-time when they play Lee in Cleveland, Tenn.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Rome, Ga. to face Shorter at 2:30 p.m. (Central).
