Choctaws Push Chargers to the Limit

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team took one of the Gulf South Conference's top teams to the limits as the Choctaws fell in five sets at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
 
Three Choctaws posted double figure kills in the match led by Jamie Boros with 20 kills on the night – a new a career-high for the Pompano Beach, Fla., native. Lexi Richards also added a season-high with 16 kills. Kendall Platt rounded out the trio with 11. Lexie Laurendine posted a team-best 30 assists. Levi Lennard tied a season-high with 18 assists.
 
Julia Martin and Lexie Laurendine each recorded 20-plus digs with 23 and 21 respectively. Autumn Frost led the team at the net with five blocks. Seven different Choctaws notched a block in the outing.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mississippi College opened the first set with a 5-1 run and held a 12-6 lead. UAH rallied to knot the contest at 24-all, but the Choctaws closed out the set with the final two points on back-to-back kills from Boros.
- A back and forth contest in the second set saw UAH grab a 22-18 lead and MC use its second timeout of the set. The Choctaws rallied back and cut the deficit to within 23-21, but the Chargers closed out the game with two of the next three points to knot the match at a set each, 25-22.
- The Choctaws and Chargers fought to a 20-all tie in the third, but UAH used a 5-2 run to escape with a 25-22 win in the third.
- UAH opened with a 5-1 run in the fourth set, but the Choctaws dispatched of the deficit behind an 11-5 run to grab a 12-10 lead. MC built the lead to 20-14 before claiming the set 25-20.

- The contest is the seventh, five-set match for the Choctaws this season.
- Richards recorded double-digit kills for the fourth time this season.
- Boros notched her team-best 17th match this season with double figure kills.
- Platt posted double-digits for the 13th time on the season.
- Laurendine recorded her 12th contest this season with 20-plus assists. Laurendine becomes the first Choctaw in the last five seasons with 30-plus assists.
