Sellan's Late Goal Secures 1-1 Draw Against Delta State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team scored in the final minutes of regulation to play rival Delta State to a 1-1 draw on Thursday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

The Choctaws (6-1-4, 5-0-2 GSC) stayed unbeaten in conference play and kept the Statesmen (5-6-2, 0-5-2 GSC) winless in league matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The two Magnolia State rivals played physical soccer for 110 minutes and the match would go into the halftime break with a scoreless tie.
  - In the 52nd minute, the Statesmen brought down an attacking Choctaw and Owen Howard was issued a red card, forcing DSU to play a man down the rest of the match.
  - Less than three minutes later, however, Tylor Davis was able to take advantage of an MC mistake and give the Statesmen the 1-0 lead with a breakaway goal in the 55th minute.
  - They would continue to stymie the MC offense over the next 30 minutes, looking to pull off an upset victory playing shorthanded.
  - The Choctaws looked poised to tie the match in the 84th minute when a hand-ball in the box gave senior Owen Connelly a penalty kick, but goalkeeper Mattis Kloepper made a diving save to keep DSU in the lead.
  - Junior Marco Sellan would score the game-tying goal, however, in the 87th minute as he found a loose ball in the box and put it into the back of the net.
  - The Choctaws dominated play in the overtime periods with seven shots to none for DSU, but the match would end in a 1-1 draw.

KEY STATS
  - The Choctaws put up 26 total shots with 10 on goal, while the Statesmen had nine shots with five on net.
  - MC had 13 corner kicks in the match, while DSU had three.

  - Junior Alejandro Chavarria made four saves for the Choctaws, giving up just the one goal.
