Choctaws Notch 200th Win in Program History, Down Bucs, 2-0

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team won their 200th match in program history with a 2-0 victory over Christian Brothers on Sunday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

The Choctaws improved to 6-1-3 with a 5-0-1 Gulf South Conference mark, while the Bucs dropped to 5-6 with a 3-3 league record.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The first goal of the match came on a mistake by the CBU defense as the Choctaws tallied the eventual game-winner on an own goal by the Bucs.
  - The match would remain with a 1-0 score until halftime and stay with the smallest of margins until the 52nd minute.
  - Junior Victor Bazan scored his first goal of the season as he got behind the Bucs' defense to put the Choctaws ahead 2-0.
  - Both teams had opportunities in the final minutes, but the Choctaws remained undefeated in league play with the victory.
 

KEY STATS
  - The Choctaws were outshot by a count of 15-10, but MC put five shots on goal compared to three for the Bucs.
  - The match was an intense battle that saw 41 total fouls and eight total yellow cards.
  - Junior Alejandro Chavarria recorded his seventh shutout of the season, making three saves over the 90 minutes.
  - Viktor Hoestbo took the loss in goal for the Bucs, making four saves and giving up a pair of goals.
 

MATCH NOTES
  - The first win in Choctaw history came on September 11, 1998 in a 4-1 victory over LaGrange.
  - The 100th victory was notched on September 8, 2010 in a 4-0 win over Spring Hill.
  - The Choctaws are now 4-3 all-time against the Bucs, including winning each of the last three meetings in Clinton by recording shutouts.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws will have next weekend off and return to the pitch on October 25th when they host rival Delta State at 3:30 p.m. at Longabaugh Field.
