CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team took down rival Delta State this afternoon in Gulf South Conference play by a score of 1-0 .
The Lady Choctaws will improve to 5-1-0 on the year and 3-0 in GSC play.
The Lady Statesmen will fall to 3-3-1 overall and 1-2 in GSC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws were able to strike early when in the 13
th minute
Emma Claire Furman found the back of the net on a cross from
Samantha Carson who notched an assist on the play. It was Furman's first goal of the season.
- The match was then delayed due to lighting in the 30
th minute and after the delay the teams went to the half with the score still 1-0.
- In the Second half both teams proved to be evenly matched  as neither team surrendered a goal in the final 45 minutes leaving the score 1-0 in favor of the Lady Choctaws.

KEY STATS
- For the fourth match in a row the Lady Choctaws shutout their opponent, making it the fourth on the season for keeper
Gabby Kayser who recorded three saves in the match.
- Furman became the ninth Lady Choctaw to score a goal this season when she struck in the 15
th minute which would end up being the winning goal.
- There were 16 fouls in the match between the rivals and two yellow cards were awarded, one for each team.
Samantha Carson was awarded the yellow card for MC and Victoria Dobbener received a yellow card for Delta State.
- MC extended their all-time record over the Lady Statesmen to 7-0-0 with the victory.

- The Lady Choctaws will return home to Robert P. Longabaugh field next weekend for a pair of GSC matches first against Shorter on September 28 and then Lee on September 30. Â Â
