Lady Choctaws Tamed West Alabama in GSC Opener

LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team opened up Gulf South Conference play with a victory over the West Alabama Tigers by a score of 2-0.

The Lady Choctaws will improve to a 3-1-0 and 1-0 in GSC play. West Alabama fell to 2-2-1 and 0-1 in GSC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaw defense was impressive all night holding the high power Tiger offense scoreless and limiting them to only 15 shots.
- The game was back and forth until a foul in the box on West Alabama which gave MC a penalty kick opportunity. Jess Davenport stepped up for the Lady Choctaws to put it in the net and give MC a 1-0 going into the half.
- MC was able to extend their lead in the 59th minute when Lauren Smith found the back of the net on a pass from Katie Taylor who was credited with an assist on the play. That gave the Lady Choctaws a 2-0 lead which would hold to be the final score of the match.
