Men's Soccer Opens 2018 with a Victory

Fort Lauderdale, Fl. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team opened up the 2018 campaign with a 3-1 victory over the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Thursday August 30.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a slow start for both teams junior Victor Bazan found the back of the net on a free kick in the 41st minute to open up the scoring.
- At the start of the second half, senior Joshua Robinson found the net in the 52nd with a header on a cross from freshman Guilhmere Santos. Santos notched an assist on the play.  
- Just 11 minutes after Robinson's goal the Sharks got on the board for the first time this season. Sophomore Sebastian Loibl scored on a give and go from Darwin Lom who got an assist on the play.
- MC put the match away in the 82nd minute on a cross from junior Michael Kuwornu that found graduate transfer Andy Alanis who then sent it to Robinson for the goal. Alanis and Kuwornu were awarded assists on the play.
 
KEY STATS
- Robinson led the scoring for the Choctaws with two goals in the second half.
- Victor Bazan picked up where he left of in 2017 with a goal in the opener. Bazan led the Choctaws in scoring last season with five goals.
- Keaton Halbert had an impressive debut as the Choctaw keeper recording six saves on 20 shots attempted by the Sharks    
- The Sharks were whistled for 15 fouls in the match, while MC was whistled for only 10.
- Two Sharks were awarded yellow cards in the match. Sophomore Lucas Dessoliers and graduate transfer Bradley Fountain received one card each. No Choctaws were given cards in the match.

MC NOTES
- The match improves MC's all-time record against Nova Southeastern to 3-1-0.
- The Choctaws will be starting the season off 1-0-0 for the third year in a row.
- MC's next match is against Barry University on Saturday Sept. 1 in Miami Shores, Fl. The match is scheduled for a 5:00 P.M. central start time.  
 

 Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
