CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team picked up their eighth straight victory, finishing off a three-game sweep of Christian Brothers with two wins on Sunday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (24-11, 15-8 GSC) won the opener by a score of 8-5, and went on to take three games from the Lady Bucs with a 5-2 win in the finale.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 8, CHRISTIAN BROTHERS 5 (GAME ONE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws got off to another fast start with four runs in the opening inning, highlighted by a pair of RBI singles from freshman
Kayla Murphy and junior
Brianna Caldwell and a run-scoring double from junior
Kristen Qualls.
- MC would tack on a run in the second as sophomore
Carly Crawford doubled to left-center field, scoring Murphy and making the lead 5-0.
- The Lady Bucs would look to get back in the game in the fourth, taking advantage of an MC error to score three runs, two of which were unearned.
- The Lady Choctaws responded in their half of the fourth as Crawford singled home Murphy to make the lead 6-3.
- Caldwell hit her 11th home run of the season to make the score 8-3 after four frames.
- CBU made things interesting with a couple runs in the seventh, but MC would hold on for the victory.
KEY STATS
- Murphy was the offensive star for the Lady Choctaws, going 4-for-4, with three runs scored, a double and an RBI. It is only the second four-hit game for a Lady Choctaw this season.
- Crawford, Caldwell and Qualls also had multi-hit games, while Caldwell scored a pair of runs.
- Caldwell drove in a team-high three runs and Crawford had a couple RBI.
- Junior
Adrianna Morgan (7-0) allowed just one earned run and five hits over 6.1 innings to get the victory.
- Sierra Anderson (2-14) took the loss for CBU, allowing four hits and three earned runs over 2.2 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The series finale saw both offenses go scoreless through two innings, but Caldwell came up big with a two-run single to score senior

- The Lady Bucs cut the lead in half in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Anderson, but it was another unearned run allowed by the MC pitching staff after an error in the frame.
- MC responded with a pair of runs in their half of the fourth as junior
Alexia Harmon and freshman
Alexis Jones each drove in scores with sacrifice flies.
- Junior
Makenzie Nieto drove in the final run of the day for MC with a single to right field that scored pinch-runner
Haley Muller.
- CBU hit a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning, but senior
Kristen Gardner (4-3) made the lead stand up with a complete game performance.
KEY STATS
- Caldwell and Nieto had multi-hit days for the Lady Choctaws, while five different MC players scored a run.
- Gardner collected the victory by going all 7.0 innings, allowing seven hits and just one earned run with four strikeouts and no walks.
- Anderson (2-15) took the loss for CBU, giving up four hits and four earned runs over 4.0 innings.
