Women's Tennis Preview: West Florida (NCAA South Regional)

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team will take part in their first ever NCAA Postseason Tournament match on Saturday, April 28, when they take on #3 West Florida in day one of the NCAA South Regional number two tournament at 10:00 a.m. in Pensacola, Fla.
 
The Lady Choctaws (20-2, 11-1 GSC) were given the number six seed in the in the field of seven teams in the south regional. West Florida (26-3, 12-0 GSC), the number three seed in the regional, will serve as the host site for the South Regional number two.
 
Number two-seeded Lynn University and number seven-seeded Benedict College make up for the other two schools participating in the South Regional number two.
 
Top-seeded Barry University, number-four seeded Saint Leo and number-five seeded Florida Southern make up the three schools competing in the South Regional number one in at Barry University in Miami, Fla.
 
The Lady Choctaws moved up to number 25 in the most recent Division II national rankings compiled by the International Tennis Association, their second highest ranking achieved during the 2018 season.
 
Brenna Keller, Sofia Gonzalez-Carrera and Nicole Bueno were all named to the All Gulf South Conference teams last week, with Keller picking up first-team honors and Carrera and Bueno garnering second team honors. Head Coach David Boteler was named the GSC Co-Coach of the year, after leading the Choctaws to their most successful regular season in program history.  
 
The winner of the MC vs. West Florida match will go on to face the winner of the Lynn vs. Benedict match on Sunday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m.
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and started competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.

The athletic department sponsors 17 intercollegiate athletic programs: Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Football, Golf, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field, Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field and Volleyball.
