Women’s Tennis Advances to GSC Semifinals with 5-0 Shutout of Lee

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team booked a trip to the semifinal round of the Gulf South Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday afternoon, with their 5-0 shutout victory over Lee University. The Lady Choctaws improved to 19-1 with the win.
 
In doubles, the Lady Choctaws were able to grab all three points up for grabs, including a 7-5 tiebreaker win from Aneta Golawska and Tori Roberts over Joanna Grzegrzolka and Carley Sickinger at the number two flight to take their matchup at 9-8.
 
Brenna Keller and AnneMarie Kimball cruised to an 8-1 win over Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto in the number one flight, improving to a team-best 16-2 as a duo on the year. Sofia Gonzalez-Carrera and RebbeccaGrace Kimball shutout Laura Beth Hardesty Nicole Shennett 8-0 in the number three flight.
 
In singles, Carrera (6-0, 6-1) and R. Kimball (6-1, 6-0) won both of their matchups in straight sets, clinching the necessary five points for victory.
 
The Lady Choctaws will return to the court tomorrow in the semifinal round of the GSC Women's Tennis Championship, where they will meet #33 Montevallo at 1:30 p.m. In their most recent meeting, the Lady Choctaws defeated the Falcons 5-2 in Montevallo on April 13.
