CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team will begin their quest for a Gulf South Conference title on Thursday, April 19 when they open up play in round one of the GSC Championship Tournament at the O'Connor Tennis Center Montgomery, Ala., where they will face the Lady Flames of Lee University.
The Lady Choctaws (18-1, 11-1 GSC) opened the season with 14 straight wins, with their lone loss coming against #2 West Florida on March 31st. The Lady Choctaws regular season success enabled them to capture the number two seeding in the tournament.
MC closed the year out with four straight victories, including a 5-2 win over #26 Montevallo on April 13th.
The Lady Choctaws checked in at number 26 in the most recent ITA Team Rankings, while coming in at number six in the South Regional Rankings.
UWF comes into the tournament as the #1 seed, followed by MC, Montevallo, West Alabama, North Alabama, Valdosta State, Lee and UAH.
The Lady Choctaws round one matchup with the #7 seed Lady Flames is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. The winner of their matchup will go on to face the winner of the #3 seed Montevallo vs. #6 Valdosta match in the semifinal round on Thursday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m.
MC picked up a 9-0 victory over the Flames on April 8
th in their only meeting of the year in Cleveland, Tenn.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and started competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
