CLINTON, Miss. --- Junior
Alexia Harmon hit a walk-off home run to cap a 6-run comeback for the Mississippi College softball team, clinching a doubleheader sweep with an 8-7 win over Union University on Friday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (18-11, 11-8 GSC) won the first game in five innings over the Bulldogs (11-20, 5-14 GSC) by a score of 9-1.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 9, UNION 1 (GAME ONE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws got things going quickly in the twin-bill as a pair of RBI groundouts by sophomore
Carly Crawford and junior
Brianna Caldwell gave MC the early 2-0 in after one inning.
- MC would break things open in the second inning, starting with an RBI triple from freshman
Jessica Aron, her third of the season, to score junior Makenzie Nieto.
- Harmon would hit her first home run of the day to push the lead to 5-0 as Aron would come home to score.
- Crawford put an exclamation point on the frame with her third home run of the season, driving in freshman
Kayla Murphy to make the score 7-0 after two innings.
- After Union put a run on the board in the third with their lone hit of the night, Harmon answered right back with an RBI single to score Aron.
- An RBI single by senior
Katherine Lee in the third would give the Lady Choctaws the final advantage of 9-1.
KEY STATS
- Junior
Cori Cooper (5-1) collected the win by striking out five over 4.0 innings, allowing just the one hit and one earned run.
- Freshman
Madi Lancaster closed out the game by tossing a perfect fifth inning out of the bullpen.
- Aron and Harmon led the MC offense with two hits apiece, while Harmon and Crawford each had three RBI in the win.
- Aron, Harmon and Murphy also scored twice in the contest.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 8, UNION 7 (GAME TWO)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The second game did not get off to a great start as the Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning with the help of one of four MC errors.
- Junior
Kristen Qualls drove in her 28th run of the season in the bottom of the first to cut the lead in half, scoring Murphy.
- Union broke the game open in the second inning, scoring five unearned runs to grab a 7-1 lead, highlighted by a two-run single from Gabby Morris.
- MC began to chip away at the lead on an RBI groundout by Murphy that scored Harmon in the second inning.
- An RBI single by Aron and an RBI groundout by Harmon would cut the score to 7-4 through four innings.
- MC would then cut the lead to 7-6 in the fifth as sophomore
Shayla McKissock and Lee singled home runs, each with two outs.
- The game-tying run came home to score in the sixth on a bloop single by Nieto that brought home Lancaster, who came on to pinch-run for Caldwell after she singled and moved up to second on an error.
- Harmon delivered the heroic blast over the left field wall on the first pitch of the seventh inning to give the Lady Choctaws the improbable comeback win.
KEY STATS
- Four Lady Choctaws (Lee, Nieto, Aron and Harmon) had two hits in the game, while Harmon drove in a pair of runs, giving her five RBI on the day.
- Nieto and Harmon each scored twice, while Lee swiped a pair of bases.
- Cooper (6-1) would come out of the bullpen to get her second win of the day, allowing just one baserunner over the final 2.0 innings with three strikeouts.
- Junior
Penny Nichols kept the Lady Choctaws in the game by pitching 3.2 innings off the bench, striking out three with no earned runs allowed.
- Morris led the Union offense with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI in the contest.
- Taylor Manley (1-3) took the loss in the circle for Union, giving up eight hits and four earned runs over 3.2 innings.
