CLINTON, Miss. --- Junior
Makenzie Nieto hit her second career grand slam to cap off a six-run fifth inning in a 10-4 win over #21 West Florida on Saturday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex. The victory helped split a doubleheader after the Argonauts came back for a 4-2 win in the opener.
The Lady Choctaws are now 12-10 overall with a 7-7 Gulf South Conference record, while the Argonauts are now 17-9 and 8-5 in the league.
WEST FLORIDA 4, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 2 (GAME ONE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Argos would jump on the board first as they drew a pair of walks to open the game and a two-out double by Callan Taylor scored the game's first run.
- The score would remain 1-0 until the fifth inning when junior
Alexia Harmon hit her second career home run, giving the Lady Choctaws a 2-1 lead as junior
Shelby Miller started the mini-rally with a two-out single.
- MC would maintain the lead until the 7th when the Argonauts struck for three runs on four hits, including scoring the two go-ahead runs with two outs.
- The Lady Choctaws would make some noise in the 7th as sophomore
Shayla McKissock walked and senior
Katherine Lee singled to put runners on the corners with two outs, but the Argos would finish off the come-from-behind win.
KEY STATS
- Lee led the Lady Choctaws with two hits in the game, while Harmon had the two RBI.
- Rachel Wright led UWF with a pair of base-knocks.

Cori Cooper (3-1) took her first loss of the season in the circle, allowing six hits and four earned runs over 6.2 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Argos appeared well on their way to a doubleheader sweep when the scored three times in the second inning, highlighted by a pair of solo home runs from Tiona Hill and Kathleen Smiley.
- MC would answer back in the third, scoring four runs as Lee singled home a run and junior
Brianna Caldwell drove in the go-ahead tally with a sacrifice fly.
- UWF tied the game with a run in the fourth and score would sit at 4-4 until the bottom of the fifth.
- Lee and freshman
Kayla Murphy each singled to lead off the inning, putting runners at first and third with no outs.
- Junior
Kristen Qualls came through with the eventual game-winning hit on a single to right field that would score Lee and Murphy to put MC ahead, 6-4.
- MC would load the bases in the inning, and Nieto would step to the plate as a pinch-hitter, sending the first pitch onto the baseball field to put the game out of reach.
- It was Nieto's second pinch-hit home run in as many weekends after hitting a three-run shot off the bench in the series win over Lee.
KEY STATS
- Lee had two more hits for the Lady Choctaws in the second game, while Nieto drove in four runs and Qualls drove in a pair.
- Tiona Hill led the UWF offense with two hits in the contest.

Adrianna Morgan (5-0) came out of the bullpen to collect the victory, allowing just two hits and an earned run over 5.2 innings.
- The Argos had three pitchers see action as Grace Gilbert (4-2) took the loss, allowing four hits and four earned runs over 2.1 innings.

- The teams are scheduled to wrap up the series on Sunday with the game being moved up to 11:00 a.m. with inclement weather expected in the area throughout the day.
