CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to the hardwood this weekend. MC (7-14, 3-12 Gulf South Conference) travels to Montevall, Ala., to face the University of Montevallo on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. The Lady Choctaws close out the road trip on Saturday, Feb. 9 in Livingston, Ala. Tip-off against the University of West Alabama is set for 2 p.m.
THE SERIES
• Mississippi College and Montevallo meet for the fourth time in series history on Thursday. MC leads the series 2-1, including a 80-65 win in Clinton earlier this season. Thursday marks just the second meeting between the two schools in Montevallo. The Falcons has won the lone meeting on their home floor (Feb. 22, 1993; 82-49).
• The Choctaws meet West Alabama for the 24th time in program history on Saturday. MC leads the series 12-11 after taking an 80-76 win over the Tigers earlier this season in Clinton. The Lady Choctaws are 3-7 against UWA in Livingston in the series.
MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
• Mississippi College fell 66-61 in overtime to West Georgia on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Lady Choctaws has four players score in double figures led by
Kelley Allen with 14 points. The Puckett, Miss., native also recorded a team-best nine rebounds.
Ieisha Lacey added 13 points while
Lauran Sheriff supplied 12 points.
Olivia Mabry rounded out the group with 11 points.
• MC connected on 34.9 of its shots from the floor in the game.
• The overtime affair was the first of the season for Mississippi College.
• Sheriff's scoring effort marks her 15th of the season in double figures – the most by a MC player this season.
• Allen's double figure effort marks her 11th this season and 31st of her career.
• Lacey has scored in double figures 10 times this season.
• Mabry's scoring output was the third this season and 12th of her career.
• A trio of Lady Choctaws average double figures in scoring. Allen leads the team with 13.1 points per game and leads the team 9.3 rebounds.
• Sheriff averages 10.7 points and sits second on the team in scoring while Lacey averages 10.3 points.
MONTEVALLO NOTES
• Montevallo enters Thursday's tilt riding an 18-game losing streak after falling to North Alabama on Monday evening 99-48.
• Montevallo shot 32-percent from the field in the loss and struggled from the free throw line and went 10-of-18 for a 55-percent shooting percentage from the charity stripe.
• North Alabama scored 42 points off turnovers off 26 Montevallo turnovers and the Lions dominated the paint outscoring the Falcons 52-26 in the low post.
• Jomekia Morine and Nautika Philpot pace the Falcons in scoring this season. Morine leads the squad with 9.7 points per game and Philpot averages 9.3 points.
WEST ALABAMA NOTES
• West Alabama stands 11-11 on the season and 8-7 in the conference after it fell 64-62 at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Monday. The loss snapped a four-game win streak snapped in the decision.
• The Tigers outscored UAH by 10 points in the final three quarters, but couldn't overcome the 23-11 deficit after the first 10 minutes of play.
• Kierra Groce and Sydney Bozeman led the Red and White in double figures in the loss. Groce led the team with 13 points while Bozeman posted 11 points and pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds.
• Tazsa Garrett-Hammett leads UWA with 14.5 points per game this season while J'Nyiah Daniels ranks second on the team with 10.1 points.
• Garrett-Hammett was named GSC Freshman of the Week for the seventh time this season.
