CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to West Alabama in their Gulf South Conference opener on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Choctaws record now sits at 4-2 overall, and 0-1 in GSC play.
Joan Valy and
Marcos Rocca grabbed MC's lone point in doubles action, with a 9-8 (7-3) tie-breaker win in the number one flight against Julius Kaverinen Linus Holthey. The duo improved their double's record to 4-2 with the win.
In singles play,
Lucio Menezes (7-6 (7-1), 6-4) and
Max Nilges both bested their opponents in straight sets. Valy needed an extra third set to knock off Kaverinen 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 in their three-set bout in the number one flight. Valy and Menezes both saw their single's record climb to a team-best 5-1 on the season with their victories.
The Choctaws will return to action on Saturday, March 3 when they take on Alabama Huntsville in GSC action. Match time in Huntsville, Ala. is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
