CARROLLTON, Ga. --- The Mississippi College baseball team took the series at No. 9 West Georgia despite the Saturday split. MC moved to 10-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Gulf South Conference. UWG improved to 11-3 and 1-2 in the league.

Game One
Turning Point
Brandon Broussard delivered a two-run single for the Choctaws in the fifth inning. The runs were the final two in the six-run inning for the Navy and Gold.

- Luke Yancey led MC at the dish going 3-for-5 with a RBI and run scored. Grant Barber, Blaine Crim and Hunter Sykes joined the Morton, Miss., native with multiple hit performances with two hits each.
- Broussard paced the Navy and Gold with a pair of RBI.
- Brandon Kennedy tossed 4.0 innings in relief for the win. The Philadelphia, Miss., product fanned four and allowed three runs – two earned - on six hits.
- Tommy Taborda tossed the final two thirds of the game and struck out one.

- MC trailed 2-1 after four frames, but exploded with six runs in the top of the fifth to take a five-run lead. The Choctaws posted six hits in the inning and capitalized on a Wolves' error.
- West Georgia attempted a rally in the bottom of the fifth as it loaded the bases with one out, but Kennedy struck out the first batter he faced and had the final out recorded on a flip from short stop to second.
- UWG plated a pair in the seventh and added one more in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to overcome.
- The Choctaws hit .500 (5-for-10) with runners in scoring position and was 4-for-5 with a runner at third and two outs.
- West Georgia left 13 runners on the bags.

The two teams battled through five scoreless innings, but West Georgia struck first as they plated the run on a sacrifice bunt and two base error.

- With the win in the opening game, Mississippi College won its first, conference-opening since 2010.
- The game one win on the mound is the second for Kennedy this season and his longest outing.
- Taborda registered his second save of the season – the most on the team.
- The setback was the second of the season for Mullis.
