Late Rally Comes Up Short as Women's Hoops Falls at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell 71-63 at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Spragins Hall. MC moves to 9-16 on the season and 5-14 in the Gulf South Conference. UAH improved to 13-13 overall and 7-12 in the conference.
 
Turning Point
Down 61-59 late in the game, Morgan Tipton knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:03 left to play to place UAH up 62-61. Tipton finished with ended with 12 points in the game – third most for the Chargers.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • A trio of Lady Choctaws scored in double figures led by Lauran Sheriff's team-best 17 points. Kelley Allen added 14 points while Ieisha Lacey chimed in 11 points.
  • Allen and Lacey led the Navy and Gold on the glass. Allen grabbed a team-best nine boards while Lacey pulled down eight.
  • Kaitlyn Thompson recorded a pair of blocks in the game as MC collected four total.
  • Mississippi College posted a season-low nine miscues as it forced UAH into 20 turnovers.
  • Baylee Johnson led UAH with 21 points in the contest. Aryn Sanders supplied 16 points.
  • MC shot 36.5 percent from the field while UAH connected on 44.2 percent, including a 40.9 clip from behind the arc. The Chargers also connected on 16 of 20 from the charity strip (80.0%).

  • MC outscored the Chargers 24-18 through the first half. The Lady Choctaws outscored UAH in three of the four quarters of the contest.
  • UAH held a 31-13 scoring advantage in the third quarter to lead to the eight-point victory.

  • The Blue and White grabbed a double-digit lead with just under two minutes left in the quarter and held a 49-37 lead after three quarters of play.

  • The Lady Choctaws tied the game twice in the final period and pulled within 64-63 with a minute to play, but a 7-0 run by the Chargers closed out the game.

  • Sheriff posted her team-leading 17th game in double figures this season. Her scoring effort was two points shy of tying her season-high.
  • With the scoring output, Lacey has 14 career games in double figures and 12 this season.
  • Allen scored in double-digits for the 32nd time in her career and 12th on the campaign.
  • The last time MC turned the ball over fewer than 10 times in a game was Feb. 6, 2016 against West Florida.
  • Thompson tied a career-high with the two blocks in the game. The Cleveland, Miss., sophomore has seven games in her career with two or more blocks.
  • The loss is the second straight to the Chargers and the eighth in the series.
