Choctaws Coast to 96-65 Victory Over Pensacola Christian

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team closed out their non-conference schedule with a 96-65 victory over Pensacola Christian on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
 
The Choctaws improved to 4-3 on the season, while the Eagles fell to 3-14.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half was a back-and-forth affair over the first eight minutes as the Eagles took an 18-17 lead with 11:29 remaining after Adam Poole hit three free throws.
 
The Choctaws responded by scoring 20 straight points, including a pair of three-pointers from junior Tre Jenkins and a long ball from Scot Hundt.
 
A jumper by junior Trai James in the final seconds gave the Choctaws a 52-25 advantage going to the halftime break.
 
In the second half, the Choctaws did not lead by fewer than 24 points, pushing their advantage out to as many as 34 with 1:44 remaining on a basket by freshman Jacob Taylor.
 
 
 
KEY STATS

MC hit a season-high 12 three-pointers, going 12-of-27 (44%) from long range, led by Jenkins with six made three's.
 
The Choctaws shot 37-of-73 (50.7%) from the field and went 10-of-14 from the free throw line.
 
Jenkins led MC with 18 points, while Boston had 17 points, going 7-of-14 from the floor.
 
MC outrebounded the Eagles, 35-28, and scored 12 second-chance points on 14 offensive rebounds.
 
Senior Marcus Lytle and sophomore Dyllan Taylor also poured in 13 points, while Jenkins and Lytle had a team-high four assists.

Jacob Taylor and a season-high seven points, while fellow freshman Zach Jones had a season-high five points.
 
The Choctaws finished the game with 23 assists and just nine turnovers.
 
The Choctaws forced 15 first-half turnovers, scoring 22 points of the takeaways.
 
MC did not have a single player commit more than one foul in the contest.
 
Dakota Pratt had a team-high 20 points for the Eagles as they shot 27-of-52 (51.9%) from the field.
 
 
NEXT UP
 
The Choctaws will host rival Delta State University next Saturday, December 15th. Tip-off in A.E. Wood Coliseum is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
