CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to action at A.E. Wood Coliseum as they face Miles College on Saturday, Dec. 8. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
- Mississippi College and Miles College meet for the fourth time in series history and the second time this season on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Golden Bears claimed a 73-68 win on their home floor in the season opener. The victory snapped a two-game, win streak by the Lady Choctaws in the series.
- Three Lady Choctaws scored in double figures in the setback at Miles. Zariah Matthews and Zan Ratcliffe each scored 14 points with Coco Hobson adding 11 points in her MC debut. The scoring output tied a career-high for Ratcliffe. Lauran Sheriff paced the squad on the glass with eight rebounds.
- Saturday's contest marks the first time that Mississippi College and Miles College have played in the month of December. The two squads met for the first time in November earlier this season. MC and Miles have also played in January in 1995 with the initial meeting between the two programs comes on February 24, 1994.
- Mississippi College is led in scoring by sophomore Lauran Sheriff and junior Zariah Matthews. Sheriff is averaging 10.8 points with Matthews scoring 10.7 points per game. Sheriff also paces the squad with 6.5 rebounds per contest.
- Mississippi College is 2-1 against members from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season. The Lady Choctaws picked up wins over Lane College and LeMoyne-Owen College in Clinton. MC is 12-2 against the SIAC all-time.
- The Lady Choctaws have five newcomers that have made their Mississippi College debuts this season. Coco Hobson, Kirsten Thompson and Lindsey Vaughn made their Lady Choctaw debuts in the season opener at Miles College. Kaleigh Wren made her collegiate debut against Lane College with Shanell Kitchens making hers against LeMoyne-Owen College. Thompson drew her first collegiate start on Saturday at West Alabama. She is the only freshman to start a contest this season for the Lady Choctaws. A freshman has started at least one game for Mississippi College in the last four seasons.
- Miles is 4-1 on the season with their only loss coming against Delta State, 67-62, on Nov. 16. A trio of Golden Bears are averaging double figures in the scoring column. Taylor Terry leads the team with 14.3 points per game. Sakina Wynn averages 13.8 followed by Victoria Sutton with 12.0 points. Terry leads Miles on the glass with 7.8 rebounds.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2018-19 academic year.
